Kelimutu Volcano, Flores Island

Kelimutu Volcano is located in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. It is an active volcano mountain with the highest 1.639m. This volcano mountain was the last eruption in 1886.

Kelimutu volcano mountain has three colored lakes which are known as “Danau Tiga Warna” by local residents. The colors are white, red, and blue. These colors are occasionally changing.

The area of the three lakes is approximately 1,051,000 square meters. And the water volume is 1,292 million cubic meters. The boundary between the lakes is a narrow rock wall that is prone to landslides. This wall is very steep with a 70-degree angle. The height of the lake wall ranges from 50 to 150 meters.

Getting to Kelimutu Volcano Mountain

Things to Prepare Before Getting to Kelimutu Volcano

It always depends on your travel style, whether you bring a lot of stuff or not. Below are some simple things to prepare before getting there:

• Make sure you have arranged the transport to get to Moni Village (the closest place to the mountain). This is the village where you will stay before trekking to Kelimutu. Things like flight tickets, taxis, or accommodation in Moni.

Best Time to Visit The Mountain

Indonesia has two seasons all year, dry season and rainy season. The dry season is coming from April to September, while the rainy season is coming from October to March.

The volcano mountain can be visited in both seasons. But always note that the large rain is coming in between December and February. So if you go in the rainy season, you better go-between October and the end of November. You can also do it in March.
